Secretary Sebelius Tours H1N1 Clinical Trial Site

October 6, 2009

Secretary Kathleen Sebelius traveled to St. Louis on Tuesday, October 6 at the invitation of Congressman Clay to discuss the latest developments in the government's response to the H1N1 outbreak and the national voluntary vaccination campaign that got underway earlier this week. While at Saint Louis University (SLU), the Secretary and the Congressman visited with citizens enrolled in the clinical trials, including one family who has four children enrolled as well as the mother who is pregnant, and with the top doctors and scientists doing critical work on vaccine testing and trials at SLU. The Secretary also learned during the tour that SLU President Father Boindi once taught her brothers during their years at high school in her hometown of Cincinnati. Earlier in the day the Secretary spoke to a conference hosted by Cerner, a medical records company located in Kansas City. She announced that Cerner and several other companies had teamed up with the CDC to help track and monitor both the H1N1 virus as it moves across the country and the H1N1 vaccine.
